well, it all started when she saw this show, and after she saw three episodes, she started to become rude and saying swears! she’s saying the f word, the s word, the a word, damn, hell, and the b word. what happend to my 11 year old baby!
Answer: i love that show just let her watch it!
Answer: First of all, don't let her watch shows like that and if you catch her watching it late at night when she thinks you're asleep or something like that, punish her. Also, set rules for your home. It really isn't right for parents to have a “do as I state, not as I do” attitude, so if you're going to make a no cussing rule, you need to stick to it as well. No one (!!!) can cuss or everyone can. And if you're concerned that she's picking up these words from TV (and let's face it, cussing is on every channel except the disney channel now), purchase a filter for your TV called the “TV Guardian”. It will mute the show during the sentence where the word was used and re-write the sentence in a caption at the bottom of the screen, replacing the cuss word with something else or leaving it out entirely. That's what we’d growing up.
Man, if I talked that way growing up, my mother would have slapped me so hard….
Answer: There's nothing wrong with your daughter you grant her to watch this show long enough to pick up what they were saying in the show. So what you can do know as a parent is tell her that it not good to state those words and if she continues there will be consequences. Like punishment, taking things from her, or grounding her.
Answer: Monitor Television time. Most Televisions now have a parental control where you can block certain stations.
My kids are grown but they were only granted 1 hour of TV a day. My grandchild gets 2 hours a day and she can only watch Disney channel and whatever Hannah Montana is on.
Only YOU can control what she Watches. I would ground her from TV for 2 weeks because of the language she is using and find out how to block that channel. No Televisions in kids rooms. When they are that young they don't need a Television in their room.
Once she is ungrounded limit how much Television she can watch and stick to it. This is what parenting is all about.
Answer: 11? Sounds normal. She'll grow out of it when she learns it isn't cool.
And Sourth Park is a good show; it has a creative way to mix humor and an argument or critization. Understanding it is even a skill taught in English 110 at my university; though their examples stuck more with The Simpson's.
Answer: Ok I love the show southpark but I have an eleven year old sister and I would NEVER let her watch it. Maybe you should monitor what she
Watches. That show is terrible. My thirteen year old sister is even granted to watch it. My mother won't even grant us to by the episodes. It is terrible, for anyone under 18 I believe.
Answer: Wel for one you need to not let her watch the show. Two you n eed to exp[lain that those words are very rude and they’re for adults and that it is not ok for them to say it. I would put a block on that channel so they dont have access to it.
Answer: That's kinda your fault.
You should of never let her watch it.
I mean before the show starts
it clearly says
that the show is not meant to
be viewed by anyone under 17.
you can't really blame the show.
I love it =]
Answer: i really hate that show you should not let her watch that show and you should punish her each time she says an curse word around you
ex. take away tv for a day or two(or the computer, which ever she likes best)
Answer: Don't let her watch it again, south park isn’t for 11 year olds, i'm suprised she even understands it.. turn the tv off!
Answer: And why is she watching that show, again? Are you the mom or the child?/ Get a grip - lay down some rules!!!
Answer: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!1U SPELT “SWEARING' RONG!!!!!!!!1
Answer: and you let your 11 year old watch south park because???!!! This is a stupid question…go blame yourself and turn the TV off…
Answer: If you know that South Park is the source of your daughter's language issue, don't let her watch it. Easy. Then you can explain to her about bad words and all that, but that's a talk that should have been done when she was like 4 or 5 years old. You can try to give it to her now, but all she'll probably do is roll her eyes and call you a b*tch. At 11, bad words (especially if she's has the gall to use them in front of you) should earn her a slap in the mouth because she should know better.
South Park, and most things on Comedy Central in that case, aren't really geared for young children. South Park is a TV-14 rated show (I think), it's known for being rude and crass, and THERE IS A DISCLAIMER AT THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SHOW warning about the language and all that other good stuff. If you think her swearing problem comes from the Television, then you might want to start passwording or blocking channels that are not rated for her age group (or level of maturity; I know plenty of 11 year olds who can watch stuff like this or worse and know better than to emulate it in their real lives, much less in front of their parents).
I'm not saying this is an absolute solution; I'm sure she swears in her regular life when she interacts with friends or whatever. It's absolutely normal for a person her age and throughout the teen years to be a tiny foul-mouthed. But do your part to show that cursing is not something you support or will tolerate in your home. If your husband or SO lives with you, get him involved so the both of you can set an example for her. It's your home, take control.
BTW, South Park IS a great show but the humor is a tiny too mature for an impressionable 11 year old. All she hears is the “cool” curse words and probably understands none of the satire. Even by adult standards it can be hard to watch so just keep her away from it for the time being.
